China’s Humanoid Robots Move Onto Factory Floors

China's humanoid robot industry is moving deeper into commercial production as manufacturers scale from demonstrations and pilot deployments towards factories, customer production lines and higher-volume shipments.

The latest example is UBTECH Robotics' 14,000-square-metre factory in Liuzhou, commissioned on 12 September and designed for more than 10,000 robots a year on a 10-minute production takt.

The figure is a planned design capacity, not verified round-the-clock output, and the mixed line covers Walker S humanoids and wheeled Cruzr platforms rather than 10,000 bipedal machines.

The broader market is already operating at significant volume. Counterpoint Research estimated that global humanoid shipments exceeded 22,000 units in the first half of 2026, with Chinese companies taking all five of the top positions. AgiBot accounted for about 9,700 shipments and Unitree more than 7,000, while UBTECH ranked fourth.

Chinese Makers Are Putting Robots on Factory Floors

AgiBot's numbers illustrate how the race is moving beyond stage demonstrations. The company said it shipped its 10,000th robot in March and its 15,000th in June, although its portfolio includes wheeled, semi‑humanoid, humanoid and quadruped machines, so those figures should not be treated as equivalent to UBTECH's Walker S output.

AgiBot has also put its Genie G2 robots into a live production environment at Longcheer Technology's plant in Nanchang.

During a six‑day test in June, the machines inspected more than 17,000 tablets on a production line, working from 8am to 7pm.

They achieved a reported 99.99% success rate after an early equipment communication failure.

Unitree has also become a major volume producer. Counterpoint put its first‑half shipments above 7,000, behind AgiBot, while TrendForce said Unitree and AgiBot were emerging as the two leading Chinese manufacturers as the industry shifted towards mass production and commercial use.

The numbers are not directly comparable across companies because product mixes and counting methods differ. But together they show why the competition is increasingly about repeatable production and deployment rather than demonstrations alone.

Robots Are Helping Build the Robots

UBTECH's Liuzhou plant takes that manufacturing push a step further by using robotic systems within the production process itself. Cruzr robots are used for tasks including depalletising, palletising, loading and transferring components.

Automated guided vehicles and unmanned logistics systems move materials around the factory, while robotic arms and flexible manufacturing cells handle assembly operations. The plant uses a flexible production layout rather than relying solely on a conventional fixed conveyor.

Siemens Digital Industries Software is involved in the manufacturing system, with digital manufacturing, simulation and digital‑twin technology used to model and manage production processes.

A further indication of the factory's automation is its work with more than 2,000 screws across more than 50 specifications on a single robot, with automated tightening and traceability systems built into the manufacturing process.

The line's 10‑minute takt is the design benchmark for this system. It does not establish that a finished robot is currently being completed every 10 minutes throughout a full operating year.

UBTECH Is Scaling Beyond Its First Thousand

The Liuzhou operation has been building Walker S2 humanoids at a much smaller scale. UBTECH marked its 1,000th Walker S2 at the site on 26 December 2025 and said more than 500 had already been delivered at that point.

The Walker S2 is designed for industrial work. UBTECH says it can carry loads of up to 15kg and uses an autonomous battery‑changing system intended to support longer operating periods in factories.

UBTECH has also reported Walker deployments at industrial sites including BYD, NIO and Foxconn. At BYD, the Walker S was used for handling alongside autonomous logistics vehicles and factory‑management systems. At NIO, UBTECH says a Walker was deployed on a final‑assembly workstation for automotive assembly and quality inspection.

That gives the 'factory floors' part of China's humanoid race a more concrete meaning: the machines are being tested and deployed inside manufacturing operations, while the companies building them are simultaneously trying to increase production.

For UBTECH, the 10‑minute figure remains a factory design benchmark. The larger test for China's humanoid makers is whether rising unit counts, faster production lines and real industrial deployments can become sustained output and repeat commercial demand.
