Containment on CW
Containment is the latest series by CW based on a deadly disease outbreak CW

Containment, an original series by The CW, aired its pilot episode on 19 April and the amount of blood spilled in premiere has garnered a mixed response from viewers. Created by Julie Plec, the show narrates the story of Alex 'Lex' Carnahan (David Gyasi) who is tasked to rescue the stranded people inside the walled city of Atlanta, which has been vastly quarantined to stop the outbreak of a mysterious disease.

Unlike any other CW show, the latest series is all about blood and gore and Plec agrees that Containment would give a tough competition to Vampire Dairies. "Let's not just say that we're going to have blood and gore for the sake of blood and gore. It's got moments that are downright disgusting," she told Variety.

"What's funny is on 'The Vampire Diaries', I have people getting their heads chopped off and knives slashing and skin and cutting carotid arteries — nothing about that is as gross as the exploding spleen in the autopsy [in Containment], which we had to cut for broadcast standards. We had to pull back on that image and I'm like, 'It's an organ. It's a human organ that's behaving in a way that's logical in its medical situation'," she added.

Containment is a thriller that will feature Lex's struggle to evacuate people stranded in the core outbreak of the mysterious disease. And according to the showcreator, the plot will explore numerous emotional elements about humans.

"There's something about being trapped in a dire situation with a group of people that you would never normally be trapped with. The human element that comes out of that — who likes who, who hates who, what cathartic moments are had that you emotionally expose yourself to somebody that you just met that morning — I've always really loved that kind of storytelling," she said.

Episode 2 of the show is titled: I to Die, You to Live. It will revolve around Lex, as he races against time to save a young girl who is in close proximity with an infected person.

Containment airs on Tuesdays at 9pm ET on The CW network. You can watch the premiere episode online by clicking here.
