A male Brazilian tapir has been born at Paignton Zoo Environmental Park in Devon. The calf, which was born on Feb. 5 has been named Dexter. We live in a world and time that threatens to destroy and make extinct an alarming number of exotic and beautiful birds, animals and reptiles, on an almost minute-by-minute base.
Therefore, while some may question the ethical motives of zoos around the world... and argue the world's fauna should be allowed to roam freely in nature, as was intended... the truth is that were it not for zoos around the world, many species would have gone extinct by now.
The loss would have been grievous... and ours.
We should be thankful then that there have been some delightful new additions to zoos across the world, over the past few months.
