Donald Trump's Mysterious Waistline Bulge Resurfaces During North Carolina Trip as Theories Swirl

President Donald Trump drew fresh online scrutiny at Charlotte Douglas International Airport on Wednesday, 16 September, after a boxy outline appeared beneath his suit.

A video posted by White House aide Margo Martin showed Trump speaking to reporters after arriving in North Carolina.

The Trump waistline bulge, as it was described online, revived unsupported claims that he was wearing a mobility device.

Trump had travelled to North Carolina to campaign for Republican Senate nominee Michael Whatley in Gastonia.

Reuters report and a White House video confirm that he spoke with reporters at Charlotte airport that evening. Neither establishes what caused the outline visible beneath his clothing.

Similar images have circulated online since at least spring 2026, prompting several competing explanations from social-media users. Some have compared the outline with commercial exoskeletons, including products made by Hypershell.

Donald Trump Exoskeleton Claims Remain Unverified

The latest appearance renewed discussion on social platforms, where users again suggested Trump might be wearing a powered walking aid. Earlier posts also cited clips showing him touching or tapping his leg before using stairs.

Some users presented those movements as possible evidence of mechanical assistance, but the clips do not establish why he made them.

That distinction matters because the visual material shows only an unexplained outline. It does not identify what was beneath Trump's suit or establish a medical condition.

Claims that he uses an exoskeleton, brace or concealed walking aid remain speculation rather than verified reporting.

The White House rejected the theory when The Daily Beast sought comment after the North Carolina appearance.

White House spokesman Davis Ingle described the reports as 'baseless conspiracy theories about President Trump.' He also defended Trump's energy, work schedule and public accessibility.

The statement rejected the speculation but did not identify what caused the visible outline. It also did not confirm that Trump uses any kind of mobility device.

Donald Trump Medical Report Records Normal Gait and Balance

The most relevant official evidence is Trump's latest annual medical examination, conducted at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on 26 May.

Physician to the President Sean P. Barbabella released the findings in a memorandum dated 29 May. The report said Trump remained in 'excellent health' and was fully fit to perform presidential duties.

The neurological section recorded normal mental status, motor strength, sensation, reflexes, gait and balance. It also said Trump scored 30 out of 30 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment. The memorandum contains no reference to an exoskeleton, brace or other walking aid.

The same report noted slight lower-leg swelling that had improved from the previous year. It also addressed bruising on Trump's hands, which Barbabella attributed to minor soft-tissue irritation from frequent handshaking while taking aspirin for cardiovascular prevention.

The memorandum said an AI-enhanced electrocardiogram estimated Trump's cardiac age at approximately 14 years younger than his chronological age. Trump was 79 when the examination took place and turned 80 on 14 June.

IBTimes UK cannot independently verify claims that Trump uses an exoskeleton or another concealed mobility device. The May memorandum records normal gait and balance and contains no reference to one.

An earlier White House medical memorandum dated 17 July 2025 disclosed chronic venous insufficiency after Trump reported mild swelling in both lower legs. The physician said Doppler testing found no evidence of deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease. That disclosure did not link the condition to any need for mobility support.
