Ed Sheeran has been branded 'lame' and hit with calls for a boycott after his performance at Robert Kraft's lavish 2022 wedding resurfaced online, with critics linking the singer to the New England Patriots owner amid renewed anger over Kraft's outspoken support for Israel and reported political donations.

Sheeran's Kraft Wedding Appearance Resurfaces

The backlash centres on Sheeran's appearance at Kraft's surprise wedding to Dr Dana Blumberg in New York City in October 2022. The event, held at the Hall des Lumières, brought together more than 200 guests, including major names from the worlds of sport and entertainment.

Kraft, who was 81 at the time, married Blumberg, then 47, during what guests had initially believed was simply a lavish party. Elton John announced the couple as husband and wife, while rapper Meek Mill performed a song for them with Sheeran providing backup.

Mill later shared a photograph from the evening featuring himself, Sheeran and John, captioning it, 'Sounds forever.'

Critics Turn on Sheeran Over Kraft Links

The renewed criticism comes amid wider scrutiny of Kraft's political activity and his strong public support for Israel.

Kraft's company, Kraft Group LLC, has donated $3 million (£2.23 million) to the AIPAC-linked United Democracy Project super PAC, according to the details circulating alongside the latest criticism. Kraft has also been a prominent supporter of efforts opposing antisemitism and has spoken publicly about Israel.

Online posts have nevertheless used his connection to Sheeran as a reason to question the singer's position on the Israel-Palestine conflict.

One critic wrote, 'Before this I didn't know how f****** lame Sheeran is.'

Another posted, 'Seems like Ed Sheeran has in fact chosen sides. A long time ago.'

A third added, 'It's all coming into focus now. F*** Ed Sheeran.'

Another critic simply wrote, 'Lost all respect for Ed Sheeran.'

The posts reflect anger among some social media users who are demanding that Sheeran face consequences over his perceived associations, although the posts themselves do not establish that Sheeran shares Kraft's political views.

The latest wave of criticism also references claims that Kraft rallied stadium owners to pressure Sheeran over Macklemore after the rapper publicly said 'Free Palestine'.

Sheeran's Role at the Star-Studded Wedding

The 2022 wedding itself was presented at the time as a surprise celebration rather than a political gathering.

Kraft and Blumberg had reportedly begun dating in 2019 and became engaged in March 2022. Guests arrived expecting a 'Kickoff and a Touchdown' party before discovering that the couple were getting married.

A screen opened to reveal Kraft and Blumberg, with Blumberg wearing a wedding dress. Elton John then announced them as husband and wife.

Meek Mill performed a song he had written for the couple, with Sheeran joining him as backup. The evening also featured an elaborate spread including caviar, Reubens, pigs in a blanket and knishes.

The current backlash is instead based on critics revisiting the association in light of Kraft's political activities and the intensifying debate over Palestine.

As the old wedding footage circulates again, Sheeran has become the latest celebrity to face online demands to explain or distance himself from a high-profile association.
