Two Christmas elves have been arrested for assault in Wolverhampton following two separate incidents.

The first assault took place on 21 December at the Babylon Bar in North Street and a man suffered from a cut lip.

Later that night, another man suffered cuts and bruises after a fight broke out outside the Civic Hall.

Police believe the two attacks were carried out by the same assailants and, after searching the area, they arrested two men dressed in festive elf costumes.

The men, aged 20 and 27, were released on police bail.

PC Tim Gee, of Wolverhampton Police, said: "We are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed either of these attacks. In particular we would like to speak to a man who came to the aid of the man attacked in the Babylon Bar.

"The good Samaritan was wearing a white T-shirt and walked the victim to Queen Square to get medical attention."

In the US, a man dressed as Santa was arrested in Wisconsin for drink-driving. The 69-year-old crashed into a Dane County Sheriff's deputy, who was directing traffic on Saturday.

The Santa had been returning from a Christmas party.
