England 127-2 (Trott 58, Pietersen 22). RAIN STOPPED PLAY

Rain stopped play just before tea in an evenly matched opening day of the First Test at Lords.

England recovered well after losing Alastair Cook for just 12 runs in the 11th over, as Andrew Strauss and Jonathan Trott batted diligently to reach 43-1 at lunch.

Strauss fell early after the break, dismissed once again by a left-arm seamer. This time it was Zaheer Khan, who finished the session with figures of 13.3-8-18-2, who lured the England captain into a rash attempt at a hook which flew straight to Ishant Sharma at fine leg.

New batsman Kevin Pietersen and Trott added 65 in a patient partnership before the heavens opened to bring play to a premature close before tea.
