France Grenade Attack: Beauty Salon Blast Turns Routine Appointments Into Chaos
Grenade thrown into Grenoble beauty salon injures six, including a child, as suspects flee

A grenade attack that erupted inside a beauty salon in Grenoble turned what should have been a routine afternoon into a frightening ordeal for customers, staff and nearby residents. Shortly after 15:00 on Friday, an apparent explosive device was hurled into a salon in the city centre of Grenoble in southeastern France, causing an explosion that left six people with light injuries, including a five-year-old child.
The unexpected blast shattered the calm of a typically ordinary moment, prompting a swift emergency response and a criminal investigation. According to police sources cited by RTL, several masked individuals approached the beauty salon before one person entered and threw the grenade inside, causing the blast that blew out the shop's window and injured six people through the force of the explosion.

Emergency Response
Emergency services, including firefighters, rushed to the scene soon after the explosion. Authorities later confirmed that none of the victims required hospitalisation, with injuries described as light and primarily caused by the shockwave and flying debris. A report shared that the atmosphere immediately turned chaotic as clients and staff inside the salon and nearby passers-by scrambled for safety.
Residents reported hearing a loud boom, followed by screams and visible panic amongst those affected. One resident told Sud Radio that they heard 'a monstrous boom' and saw people 'crying and panicked' in the aftermath.
Suspects Flee and Motive Unknown
Police and investigators have cordoned off the area as they seek to determine the identities and motivations of the suspects, who fled the scene after the explosion. No official motive has yet been disclosed. The prosecutor in Grenoble noted that the device used was not a standard military grenade but an explosive intended to cause shock and damage rather than significant lethality—suggesting the attack may have been designed more for intimidation than mass harm.
Investigators also reported that a video of the incident was posted on social media by an accomplice, indicating a disturbing willingness to publicise the act. Authorities have called for any witnesses or those with information to come forward as part of the ongoing investigation.
Impact on Community
According to an article, amongst the injured was a five-year-old child, who received medical attention at the scene but did not require hospital transfer, local officials confirmed. Neighbours and shop owners nearby spoke of shock and deep concern, describing the salon as a peaceful, everyday business.
Such incidents are rare in Grenoble's city centre, but the use of an explosive device in a civilian setting has heightened a sense of unease amongst local people about the safety of everyday spaces. While acts of violence involving explosives in Grenoble are not common, they are not entirely unprecedented. Last year, a grenade attack in a bar in a different part of the city injured a dozen people, prompting a police investigation and national attention.
The recurrence of such incidents—albeit in different circumstances—adds to broader concerns about public safety and the security of civilian areas, especially when ordinary places such as salons or bars become sites of violence. Police presence remains strong in the area whilst forensic teams continue to examine the scene for evidence that could point to the suspects or their motives. At this stage, police have refrained from connecting this explosion to any larger political or criminal organisation, and the motive remains officially undetermined.
