Robot Dominates Influencer in World's First-Ever 'Human vs. Robot' Cage Fight

Influencer Frankie LaPenna stepped into a San Francisco cage on 18 September for a bout that looked more like science fiction than a conventional combat-sports event. LaPenna faced a six-foot (182.88 cm) humanoid robot in what robotics company Robot Entertainment Kombat (REK) described as the first Human vs. Robot fight of its kind.

The machine was an EngineAI T800, a humanoid robot designed with a look reminiscent of the T-800 from The Terminator films and weighs between 75kg and 85kg (165 and 187 lbs) LaPenna, known for comedy, stunt and entertainment content, entered the cage wearing protective equipment, a helmet and boxing gloves.

Robot's Powerful Kicks Send Influencer Across Cage

At one point, a person near the cage could be heard expressing concern before the action began.

'Dude, I'm scared for you man,' an official told LaPenna.

LaPenna appeared to make an encouraging start, connecting with the machine several times. The robot, however, showed little visible reaction before beginning to push forward. Its kicks quickly became the most striking part of the encounter.

Footage shared by REK shows the humanoid landing a series of kicks, with one sending LaPenna backwards towards the cage wall. Another strike knocked him heavily to the mat, where he appeared to struggle to get back to his feet.

The widely circulated clip ends with LaPenna down on the canvas, leaving viewers with the impression that the machine had won the encounter.

However, the public footage does not tell the complete story.

REK later said LaPenna 'kept going' and 'defeated this robot'. The company also indicated that more footage would be released. Some reports said LaPenna went on to face multiple machines, although the full contest has not been publicly released.

That has created uncertainty around the final outcome of the exhibition. There is no publicly available sanctioned scorecard or conventional fight record confirming the result.

Human-Controlled Robot Sparks Online Reaction

Despite its futuristic appearance, the T800 was not fighting autonomously. A human operator controlled the robot remotely, with virtual-reality equipment used to direct its movements. AI-assisted systems helped with functions including balance and stability. The combat decisions were therefore being made by a person rather than an independent artificial intelligence system.

REK has previously staged robot-versus-robot combat events and is developing a virtual-reality experience based around remotely controlled humanoid machines. The LaPenna bout represented an expansion of that concept by placing a human directly inside the cage.

REK described the event as historic, writing: 'We just made history with the first Human VS Terminator robot fight. Frankie LaPenna gave it his all.'

The footage subsequently spread widely across social media, prompting comparisons with films such as The Terminator and Black Mirror.

'Didn't we have, like, 6 movies explaining why this is a bad idea?' one viewer wrote.

Another commented: 'i promise you this video will go down in history as the tipping point lmfao.'

A third added: 'Bruh we're literally building what we're afraid of.'

Another user simply asked: 'Why are we normalizing this?'

REK has since teased further events, saying the robot was 'not even the final boss'.
