Giants Fan Dad's Wife Defends Him After 'Useless' Backlash, Reveals He Was Grieving Childhood Friend's Death

A San Francisco Giants fan's wife has defended him after a viral stadium clip showed her carrying their baby and food while he remained seated, prompting strangers to brand him 'useless' and question their marriage.

Erika said the footage captured only a few seconds of their evening and missed a painful detail: her husband, Ramses, was grieving the recent death of one of his oldest childhood friends.

Wife Explains the Viral Giants Clip

The couple initially found the broadcast amusing after Giants announcers Duane Kuiper and Mike Krukow joked about Erika carrying her daughter, Anastasia, and food back to her seat.

But as the clip spread online, viewers began treating the commentary as evidence that Ramses did not help his wife.

Erika explained that she had gone to the toilet during the fifth inning while Ramses offered to take their daughter. She chose to keep Anastasia with her because the San Francisco night was cold and she wanted to keep the baby warm. She also changed her nappy while she was away.

While passing the food area, Erika sent Ramses a photo of the menu. He told her he would have whatever had the shortest queue.

She returned with brisket sandwiches and loaded fries while carrying their daughter. Erika said Ramses moved her jacket to clear her seat, greeted their daughter and asked if she wanted to eat first. He also offered to take the food from her.

Ramses Was Grieving His Childhood Friend

Erika revealed that Ramses had recently lost one of his oldest friends, a gifted baseball player he had known since they were children.

There was no formal funeral or memorial service for him to attend, so Erika suggested the Giants game as a way for her husband to remember his friend.

She said she could see Ramses messaging his group chat about their lost friend throughout the game.

'The camera showed what I was carrying in my hands. It couldn't show what he was carrying that night,' Erika wrote.

Wife Hits Back at 'Useless' Claims

The footage prompted strangers to call Ramses a deadbeat and tell Erika to leave him. She rejected those assumptions, saying they had been together for nine years and were raising two children under two.

'Ramses is an amazing husband and an even better father,' she wrote.

Erika said both parents change nappies, attend medical appointments, read and play with their children. She also revealed that Ramses supported her after she lost her job six weeks before their daughter was born.

Couple's Life Was Missed by Cameras

Erika said she experienced postpartum depression, stress and anxiety after Anastasia's birth, while Ramses encouraged her to focus on recovering and took on more financial responsibilities.

'The partner you rely on can also need someone to lean on,' she wrote.

The backlash eventually became deeply personal, with Erika revealing that strangers had sent disturbing messages and even told Ramses to kill himself.

She said she spoke out because she did not want strangers defining her marriage from a few seconds of footage.

'That night, my husband needed me. I wanted to be there for him,' Erika wrote.
