The first trailer for HBO's eagerly-awaited drama series - Westworld will release this Sunday, 9 August. The show is created and written by Jonathan Nolan (Interstellar, The Dark Knight Rises) and Lisa Joy and has several big names attached to it including Star Wars: The Force Awakens director JJ Abrams serving as one of the executive producers.

The one-hour drama series is described as "a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the future of sin". It is based on the cult-favourite 1973 film by writer/director Michael Crichton.

In an earlier interview, Joy stated that the show is a "sci-fi mashed up with a western", while Nolan added, "It's a place where you can be whoever you want to be and there are no consequences – no rules, no limitations." (via ScreenRant)

Nolan also said that it's the team's intention to make "the most ambitious, subversive, f–ked-up television series".

The cast includes Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, James Marsden, Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Rodrigo Santoro, Shannon Woodward, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Ben Barnes, Jimmi Simpson, Clifton Collins, Jr, Simon Quarterman and Angela Sarafyan.

The trailer of Westworld will air this Sunday, 9 August at 8.58pm ET/PT - prior to the season 2 finale of True Detective.
