James Ward faces John Isner on day one of the Davis Cup tie between Great Britain and the United States in Glasgow.

Where to watch

Ward v Isner is live on BBC2 HD, British Eurosport HD and BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra on 6 March.

Preview

Ward is in familiar territory as Great Britain's second singles representative in their clash against the United States, having famously beaten Sam Querrey at the same stage in 2014, in truly exciting fashion.

With Andy Murray having comfortably dismissed the challenge of Donald Young in straight sets in San Diego, Ward secured a 2-0 lead for Leon Smith's team after coming back from a two set to one deficit to take an enthralling match 1-6 7-6 (7-3) 3-6 6-4 6-1.

Isner, however, represents something of an unknown quantity for the 28-year-old, at least at the elite level, as the two have never met previously at the Davis Cup or indeed in any ATP World Tour or Grand Slam main draw events.

Ward and Isner have split their only two previous contests, with the latter claiming victory at the Savannah Challenger back in 2009, while Ward triumphed in their last encounter in an exhibition match in Melbourne two months ago.

Towering right-hander Isner is known for his powerful serving game and is currently ranked 20th in the world, 91 places above his opponent.

He reached the third round of the 2015 Australian Open before exiting to Gilles Muller, a match notable for Isner's decision to smash his racket into pieces in sheer frustration at such an unexpected loss.
