Ersey Airport Downplays Fears as Easyjet Slashes Winter Seats Across Network
Ports of Jersey forecasts 3% more planned capacity than last winter, while easyJet removes up to 1.4 million seats across its wider network

Ersey Airport insists its winter schedule will grow even as easyJet removes up to 1.4 million seats from its network-wide programme and declines to confirm how individual Jersey routes will be affected.
Ports of Jersey, which runs the airport, says planned capacity at Jersey Airport is 3 per cent higher than last winter and that it does 'not expect any material impact on connectivity for Jersey passengers'. The operator remains confident in the 'range of services available this winter'.
The reassurance follows reports that easyJet is removing a further 600,000 to 700,000 seats from its winter flying programme across its network. That comes on top of an earlier reduction of around 700,000 seats.
Neither the airline nor the operator has published a route-by-route breakdown of the changes, so the effect on individual Jersey services has not been confirmed.
Capacity Up, but Route Picture Still Murky
The 3 per cent figure covers planned capacity at the airport compared with the previous winter. It does not show how that capacity is distributed across routes.
The network-wide seat reductions and Jersey's overall figure are not necessarily in conflict. An airline can cut capacity across its wider operation while total planned capacity at one airport rises. A rise overall can also sit alongside fewer flights on a particular route.
What passengers experience will therefore depend on which routes and departure times are kept, and whether alternative flights are available.
The seat figures relate to easyJet's whole winter network. They do not, on their own, show how many of the reductions affect Jersey.
easyJet Plays Down Scale of Cuts
The airline has described the latest changes as a small part of its operation. 'Like all airlines, we review our schedule on an ongoing basis and sometimes make some changes,' an easyJet spokesperson told the Jersey Evening Post.
The spokesperson said the latest changes 'represent a tiny proportion of our flying programme'. The airline said it typically targets routes with several departures a day so affected passengers can move to another service.
'We make any changes in advance and typically choose multi-daily frequency flights so customers can easily move to an alternative flight,' the spokesperson said. That approach does not guarantee a suitable alternative for every passenger. easyJet has not said which routes are affected by the latest reductions.
Fuel Costs Drive Winter Schedule Re‑Think
The schedule changes come amid elevated jet fuel prices following the conflict involving Iran. easyJet has cited those costs as a factor in its decision to reduce winter capacity. Reports suggest fuel prices have begun to ease but remain high.
Ports of Jersey said airlines regularly adjust their schedules in response to demand and wider market conditions.
What Winter Travellers Need To Check
Islanders booked to travel this winter should check their airline's published timetable and any notifications about their flight.
Ports of Jersey's forecast is a statement of expectation rather than a confirmed outcome for every route. The key question for passengers is whether the services they rely on remain available at the times they need them.
