Judge issues warrant for Tyga's arrest after he fails to appear before court – report
The rapper has been accused of failing to pay his ex-landlord rents for months.
A judge has reportedly issued a warrant for Tyga's arrest after he missed his court date over an unpaid $480,000 (£368,399) judgement. The Rack City hit-maker was supposed to appear in court on Tuesday morning (9 August) for a hearing with lawyers of his ex-landlord, who has accused the 26-year-old for not paying rent for months and for leaving the property in a mess.
According to TMZ, the rapper (real name Michael Ray Stevenson) was due to appear in Santa Monica court to answer some questions about his finances after he failed to pay up $480,000 to his former landlord but the rapper did not show up at court.
The landlord's legal representative Alexander Cohen and Associates in a statement to press has said that after Tyga moved into the mansion he made various changes to the property and also damaged it, Billboard reported.
The statement reads: "Once the Plaintiff took possession of the property he realized that Tyga, without the required prior consent of the Plaintiff, installed a stripper pole in the middle of the master bedroom, disconnected the intercom system of the home, altered the laundry room electrical wiring, removed and/or installed televisions, TV brackets, safe box, security system, and had broken and damaged multiple glass tiles in both master bathroom showers and around the fireplace amongst other damages. Tyga had also literally torn off the automatic gate opener, and severely damaged the hardwood floors throughout the house."
The statement continued, "It is clear that Mr. Stevenson thought he had better things to do; like buy his girlfriend Kylie Jenner a new $189,000.00 Maybach while continuing to claim poverty. Kylie shouldn't get too comfortable in her new car; it's unlikely to be hers much longer."
The landlord's lawyer Danny Abir said the arrest warrant was signed off by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Nancy L. Newman, with bail set at $10,000 (£7,674), Los Angeles Times reported.
The news comes days after the rapper gifted a Mercedes Maybach worth $200,000 (£153,499) to his girlfriend Kylie Jenner on her 19th birthday. The reality star has shared a series of videos on Snapchat of her reaction to the extravagant gift earlier this week.
