'This Feels Illegal': Kim Kardashian Hesitates Before Signing Fan's Rare Crocodile Birkin, Calls It 'Blasphemous'

Kim Kardashian briefly hesitated before signing a fan's rare bright red crocodile Hermès Birkin in Shanghai on Monday night, describing the request as 'blasphemous'.

The SKIMS co-founder was meeting fans during NikeSKIMS launch events in Shanghai when the owner asked her to autograph the handbag itself. 'This feels illegal,' she said before taking the metallic gold pen.

Kim Kardashian Seeks Reassurance

The fan, a luxury reseller and influencer, handed over a red crocodile Hermès Birkin 35 and asked Kardashian to sign 'in the middle'. Before making any mark, she checked that the owner wanted the autograph on the handbag itself.

Once he reassured her, Kardashian went ahead, carefully writing across the front. 'Oh my God. This feels blasphemous,' she said. After completing the autograph, she embraced the fan and posed for photographs with him.

Mandatory put the bag's reported value at around £60,600 ($80,000). That figure is not a confirmed sale price for the signed item, and the accounts offer no independent appraisal of what Kardashian's autograph might add to its value.

Kardashian was in Shanghai to promote NikeSKIMS at HKRI Taikoo Hui, where the brand was celebrating its first physical destination in China. The pop-up showcases the Fall Edit 01 collection and is scheduled to remain open through February 2027.

For the preview, she wore a sculpted satin bodysuit in the shade Carob Brown from the collection, paired with an oversized tan leather trench coat. Her visit also included discussion of the brand and of designing her first sneaker with Nike.

Kardashian's mother, Kris Jenner, also appears to own the same style of bag, according to an earlier Instagram photograph linked in the reporting.

Beyond Kim Kardashian's Autograph

The signing circulated across TikTok, Instagram and X, where viewers questioned whether the autograph had improved the handbag or spoiled it. Would another collector want a Birkin bearing Kardashian's name, and pay more to own it?

Some viewers questioned the decision to put a signature on an exotic-skin Birkin. Others treated the autograph as an additional feature that could distinguish this bag from similar examples on the resale market. Those predictions remained speculation, rather than evidence of a higher selling price.

'This is so so so insane,' one person commented on WWD's Instagram post.

'Imagine if it's a fake Birkin and he ends up selling it for thousands just because Kim's signature is on it,' another person joked. The remark was speculation about a hypothetical counterfeit, not evidence that the fan's handbag was fake or that it had been put up for sale.

A retail comparison also has limits. Madison Avenue Couture lists a similar red crocodile Birkin 35 for approximately £33,700 ($44,500). That bag has palladium hardware, whereas the fan's had gold hardware. Its asking price cannot establish the value of the signed one.

No completed resale of the autographed bag was documented in the accounts of the encounter. Some commenters nevertheless interpreted the owner's request as a deliberate effort to increase its appeal to a future buyer, rather than simply obtain a souvenir.
