There has been considerable speculation over the features of the Samsung Galaxy S3, which is not unusual given the success its predecessor, the S2, enjoyed. Samsung, however, are keeping tight-lipped on possible release dates and features. The latest rumours suggest the phone could be launched on 22 May.
LG, on the other hand, has recently unveiled its first quad-core smartphone - the Optimus 4X HD - featuring a 4.7-inch True HD IPS display and touch-sensitive controls.

According to South Korean media, the highly-anticipated Galaxy S3 is expected to feature a 4.8-inch display with 16:9 ratio. In comparison, the Optimus 4X HD flaunts a HD-IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels. The 4.7-inch device supports multi-touch functionality.
The Samsung smartphone is rumoured to include an Exynos chipset and a 1.5 GHz quad-core CPU. In contrast, the Optimus 4X HD is powered by the ultra-fast Nvidia Tegra 3 chipset and a 1.5 GHz Cortex-A9 quad-core processor with 1GB RAM. Nvidia's Tegra 3 chipset delivers outstanding performance which offers faster browsing and hardware-accelerated flash.
According to rumours, the Galaxy S3 is expected to come with a whopping 12 megapixel rear-facing camera. It could support full HD video recording of 1080p as well as a two megapixel front-facing camera for video calling.
While, the LG smartphone packs a primary camera of eight megapixels (featuring AutoFocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection and image stabilisation). It offers a secondary camera of 1.3 megapixels for video chats and video recording of 1080p.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 is expected to run on the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). LG's smartphone also run on Android 4.0 ICS which features multitasking, customisable home screen and widgets, improved text input and spell-check functionality. In addition, the latest ICS supports new lock screen actions, quick response for incoming calls and voice recognition.
The Samsung Galaxy S3 could include internal storage options of 16GB/32GB as well as a microSD card slot for an additional memory of 32GB. The LG Optimus 4X HD has 16GB of internal storage. It contains a microSD expansion slot supporting up to 32GB of additional space.
