GTA 6
A fresh Rockstar Games leak has surfaced an abandoned Liberty City expansion built for GTA V, fuelling fan speculation about a possible GTA 6 DLC GTA Community Instagram account

Speculation about potential GTA VI downloadable content has intensified after roughly 192GB of internal Rockstar Games files surfaced online on 18 September, with the archive appearing to contain material from GTA V's cancelled LibertyV expansion.

A large Rockstar archive associated primarily with GTA V has surfaced, revealing more about the cancelled LibertyV project and prompting renewed speculation about whether Liberty City could appear in GTA VI.

Whispers of a Liberty City comeback have floated around since December 2023, when a much smaller GTA V source code leak, roughly 4GB, first surfaced online. That earlier breach hinted at unfinished city expansion work but gave little sense of scale.

The much larger archive appears to contain a fuller version of material associated with the December 2023 GTA V source-code leak, according to reporting published on 18 September, and it has handed dataminers their clearest look yet at what Rockstar once had planned.

What the Leaked GTA V Material Reportedly Reveals

An X user who has been tracking the material shared an outline of the Liberty City map. The account said the outline was traced from shoreline locations and audio zones identified in the files.

It's a fairly rough sketch, more squiggly lines than skyline, and the outline appears to cover a larger area than the Liberty City featured in GTA IV, although the leaked material does not establish a final playable map size.

A Reddit user later shared a cleaned-up version of that same outline, giving fans an easier way to compare it against the old map. The material also reportedly includes Agent Trevor mission names, cut vehicles, unused dialogue and early cutscene material. The content is associated with GTA V projects that were ultimately not released as story expansions.

Rockstar has not publicly commented on the material identified in the current leak.

Why Liberty City Fuels GTA VI DLC Speculation

Fans have long debated whether Leonida, the fictional state that includes Vice City in GTA VI, could eventually be joined by a second setting once story downloadable content becomes viable.

Rockstar's most recent major single-player expansion was Red Dead Redemption's Undead Nightmare, released in 2010, so nobody should expect a quick follow-up. Still, GTA V used North Yankton as a secondary location during its story, and Red Dead Redemption 2 sent players to Guarma for a stretch, so precedent exists.

Some online commentary has floated the idea that Liberty City might instead be folded into a future version of GTA Online rather than a single-player campaign, given its comparatively modest size next to the sprawling Leonida map.

Other online speculation has attempted to connect Liberty City with an alleged flashback involving Jason, although the available source does not establish such a sequence or confirm the details of his backstory. Other reporting has cautioned that there is no evidence the LibertyV material will be reused in GTA VI.

For now, any claim that the LibertyV material will be reused in GTA VI remains speculative.

Confirmed GTA VI Release Date

Nothing about the LibertyV material has been confirmed by Rockstar, so all of it should be treated with caution until the studio says otherwise, if it ever does.

What is confirmed, and worth separating clearly from the leaked and speculative material, is the release date. Rockstar has confirmed that GTA VI will launch on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with digital pre-loading beginning on 12 November.

Whether Liberty City ever makes it past a shoreline audio outline and into an actual playable map remains unknown. Dataminers are continuing to examine the archive, with reports already pointing to possible early GTA VI-related assets. Those findings have not been independently verified.
