The GTA 6 file size has yet to be confirmed ahead of the game's 19 November 2026 release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Meanwhile, Reddit users are estimating it could require anywhere from 150GB to 300GB of storage Rockstar Games Website

GTA 6 file size remains unconfirmed ahead of its 19 November 2026 launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

On Reddit, players are debating estimates from about 150GB to 300GB as they consider how much storage to clear.

Rockstar Games first moved Grand Theft Auto VI to 26 May 2026, then delayed it again to 19 November. The studio has since confirmed that eligible digital purchases can begin pre-loading on 12 November, but it has not published an installation size.

That leaves a practical question hanging over the launch. Rockstar's current GTA 6 pages and Sony's public PlayStation Store listing do not state how much storage the game will require.

GTA 6 File Size Estimates Range Widely

One widely discussed r/GTA6unmoderated thread, posted on 16 August, asked users to predict a realistic GTA 6 file size. The original poster guessed between 220GB and 296GB.

Other replies settled on figures including 184GB, 218GB, 250GB and 300GB. Another user suggested a broader 150GB to 250GB range.

None of those figures came from Rockstar, Sony or confirmed technical specifications. They are player estimates, nothing more.

A newer Reddit discussion posted on 20 September showed the same concern from a more practical angle. Its author said 180GB would be manageable but worried that anything above 240GB could force several games off the console.

That anxiety is understandable. Modern console libraries fill up quickly, and a large install can make storage management part of the buying decision. Still, the numbers remain unverified.

A separate Reddit post on 19 September claimed a PlayStation screen showed '244.86 GB required' for GTA 6. The image has circulated among fans, but Sony's live public store page does not show that figure.

Rockstar's official pages also do not list a storage requirement. IBTimes UK cannot independently verify the screenshot claim, so treat it with caution.

Rockstar has described GTA 6 as the 'biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet.' That may help explain why players expect a substantial installation. It does not, however, establish the file size.

What Rockstar Has Confirmed About GTA 6

The confirmed details are narrower than the online speculation. GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on 19 November 2026. Rockstar says digital pre-loading begins on 12 November for eligible purchases.

The studio has not said whether the download will land closer to 150GB, 250GB or 300GB. Rockstar has also said the physical edition will be available on 19 November. According to the company's pre-order information, that version contains a download code rather than a game disc.

That means the eventual download requirement will also matter to physical buyers. Some players have used Grand Theft Auto V as a rough comparison. One Reddit commenter recalled the PC version launching at around 60GB and growing over time.

Rockstar's own 2015 PC launch information listed 65GB of required storage. The PC edition arrived on 14 April 2015, almost two years after the console release in September 2013.

That comparison still has limits. Current GTA V storage requirements differ by platform, edition and installed content.

The same caution applies to claims that GTA 6 could double or triple in size after launch. Rockstar has not announced a storage roadmap or confirmed how future content might affect installation requirements.

Sony has separately highlighted the PS5's ultra-high-speed SSD as part of the game's loading performance. That says nothing about how much storage GTA 6 will occupy.

For now, the safest reading is simple. The 150GB to 300GB range reflects fan expectations, not an official specification.

With pre-loading scheduled for 12 November, players should eventually get a firm answer before launch. Until Rockstar or Sony publishes the requirement, even the most convincing-looking number remains speculation.
