Liverpool's desire to sign Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno has seen them submit an offer of £16m plus Suso on loan, reports in Spain claim.

The 21-year-old is currently with the Spanish national team after being named in Vicente Del Bosque's 30-man preliminary squad to go to the World Cupm ahead of Arsenal's Nacho Monreal.

The Europa League winner has excelled in La Liga over the past two seasons, catching the eye of a number of big European clubs including Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Napoli.

And according to Marca, Liverpool are close to outbidding rival suitors for his signature after offering a lucrative €20m deal, including a loan for Suso.

IBTimes UK understands that Liverpool made an initial bid in the region of €15m for Moreno during the January transfer window. Manager Brendan Rodgers was keen on signing him as replacement for Jose Enrique, after the Spaniard suffered a long-term injury.

Sevilla turned down Liverpool's proposal and as well another from Napoli, but according to Marca they are now ready to accept the Reds' second bid.

Sevilla and Liverpool are currently negotiating over whether to include Suso as part of the deal - with the Premier League side hoping to complete the signing in the coming days before Del Bosque announces his final World Cup squad on 2 June.

Moreno himself is also keen on moving to Anfield even though his preferred choice was to join Real Madrid.

The Champions League winners had earmarked him as Fabio Coentrao's replacement, but after the Portuguese left-back excelled during the latter part of the season the club have decided to retain him in the squad – leaving Liverpool free to secure Moreno's services.
