A 60-year-old man has died after a road accident on the M74 this morning.

Police were called at 6.20am to a report of a collision between a car and a van on the northbound carriageway between Larkhall, (junction 8) and Hamilton, (junction 6).

Officers are still on the scene and all three lanes of the carriageway remain closed.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Police Scotland can confirm a 60-year-old man has died following a road crash on the M74 this morning.

"Around 6.20am, officers were called to a report of a road crash on the M74 northbound between Larkhall and Hamilton.

"The motorway is currently closed to all northbound traffic between Junction 8 and Junction 6.

"Local diversions are in place and officers are still on the scene."
