Malaysia will take on Pakistan in the second semi-final of the 2016 Asian Hockey Champions Trophy in Kuntan, Malaysia, on 29 October (Saturday).

The second semi-final will see two teams who finished second and third in the table face each other. The hosts failed to finish on top of the table following their 2-1 defeat at the hands of India, which helped the latter to clinch the top spot.

Having made it to the semi-final on three consecutive occasions, Malaysia have failed to make it to the final. They will be looking to seal a berth in the final for the first time in the tournament by beating their semi-final opponent on Saturday.

Pakistan managed three wins in their five matches and finished third in the table. They are the defending champions and won the tournament on the last two occasions and have a chance of winning it for the third time in a row.

The reigning champions will have to overcome Malaysia to make it to the final. Pakistan suffered a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Malaysia in the opening match of the fourth edition of the tournament.

They will have to better their game in order to avoid a similar result and should that happen, the damage could be heavy for them as they will be knocked out.

India and South Korea will face each other in the first semi-final. The winner of this clash will take on the winner of the second semi-final between Malaysia and Pakistan in the final.
