The theme for the 70th Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Gala, known as the Met Gala, in New York City was Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology, which saw hundreds of famous faces suitably dressed for the occasion. Following last year's theme of China: Through the Looking Glass, most celebrities dressed in conjunction with the theme, mixing art, fashion and technology.

The Met Gala, sometimes called the Met Ball, has been held on the first Monday of May since 1946. The gala raises money for the annual budget of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City.

Actress Claire Danes wore a Cinderella-esque Zac Posen gown, while singer-songwriter, and co-chair of the gala, Taylor Swift wore Louis Vuitton. Many attendees experimented with the theme – Beyoncé wore a latex Givenchy dress, Kanye West donned blue contact lenses and Emma Watson wore a Calvin Klein ensemble made from recycled plastic bottles. Lady Gaga failed to disappoint wearing an Atelier Versace halter bra, high-waisted corset number and a studded gunmetal jacket with Wolford fishnet stockings.
