Mistresses season 3 premiere
Mistresses season 3 returns to ABC on 18 June at 9pm ABC

ABC has released the official synopsis for the premiere of Mistresses season 3, which returns on 18 June at 9pm.

The season 2 finale ended on a dramatic cliffhanger, with Joss running to Harry on the beach and making it quite clear how she feels about him, and Alyssa Milano's Savi about to bust her ex-husband and her younger sister in a mid-makeout session.

Season 3's two-hour premiere episodes are titled Gone Girl and I Will Be Watching You.

According to the official synopsis (via Broadway World), "Picking up where last season's cliffhanger left off, "Gone Girl" begins with the bride-to-be in the arms of another man. Having confessed their true feelings, Joss and Harry are making out on the beach when Karen calls with bad news and Joss races to be with Scott. Meanwhile, April invites her half-brother Scotty and his mother to town and they arrive with Uncle Marc in tow. Karen makes a return visit to her doctor, Alec and the results of her blood test are about to change her life in a very dramatic way. Fashion designer Calista Raines arrives on the scene determined to get what she wants."

The drama and intrigue continues with I'll Be Watching You as new friendships are forged, relationships are set on a complicated course and mysterious plans are set in motion.

Savi's abrupt exit will be addressed

The title Gone Girl refers to the fact that Alyssa Milano's character Savi will be leaving the series. It is expected that Milano will appear in the season 3 premiere to enable Savi to gracefully exit the show.

"I can't speak too specifically about the Savi of it all, except to say that she is very much a part of our premiere," the Mistresses showrunner Rina Mimoun, told TVLine.

Milano announced her exit from the series back in October, citing the filming relocation to Vancouver, Canada as the reason. "After two wonderful seasons in Los Angeles, the studio has decided to shoot season three of Mistresses in Vancouver, Canada, for financial reasons. It's with a heavy heart that I have decided that I can't relocate," the actress said in a statement.

New cast member Jennifer Esposito will replace Alyssa Milano's spot in the ABC series.

Esposito will play the role of the "uber-fabulous and larger-than-life" Calista Raines. Esposito's character will be the "friend, mentor and surrogate sister" of Jes Macallan's Joss who lost her sister Savi (Alyssa Milano).

Esposito will be joining the previous season's mistresses Macallan (Joss), Rochelle Aytes (April), and Yunjin Kim (Karen).
