At least two Nato soldiers have been killed in a "green-on-blue" attack by militants dressed in Afghan military uniform. The assault took place in a Nato base in Afghanistan's southern region.

"Two Resolute Support service members died early this morning when two individuals wearing Afghan National Defence and Security Forces uniforms opened fire on their vehicle at an ANDSF compound in Helmand province," the coalition forces said in a statement.

The nationalities of the two soldiers are yet to be announced. The statement added: "Afghan and Resolute Support officials are reviewing the incident and further information will be released as available and appropriate."

The attack in the restive Helmand province is the first such incident since April. The Afghan Taliban has not claimed responsibility for the attack.
