The Newsroom Season 3 is premiering on 9 November on HBO and fans will see Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels) and the ACN team back in action.
The synopsis of the premiere episode suggests that the first episode will centre on the Boston Marathon bombing in April 2013.
The official synopsis says: "In the wake of the Genoa debacle, Will (Jeff Daniels), Mac (Emily Mortimer) and the News Night team decide to err on the side of caution in reporting a major breaking story, which may enhance credibility, if not ratings."
Neal (Dev Patel) faces a slippery slope when he is contacted by an anonymous source in possession of stolen government documents revealing how false press stories planted in newspapers spawned fatal riots in Kundu.
And Sloan (Olivia Munn) looks to solve a takeover puzzle. Also, Maggie (Alison Pill) is forced to pinch-hit for Elliot (David Harbour) in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombings.
According to a TV guide report, the story might end with an FBI raid.
"The season premiere is set around the events of the Boston Marathon bombing and, owing to ACN's screw-up with the Operation Genoa story last season, everyone is appropriately gun shy about reporting the 'facts' of the story too quickly."
The report adds: "As such, they end up being dead-last — a position the show also finds itself in the ratings for the first time. But things will get much, much worse when one reporter's pursuit of a story ends with the FBI raiding the newsroom."
The relationship drama involving Jim, Maggie and Hallie will be the highlight of the show's last season.
Though Maggie might be ready to reconnect, Jim has a new girlfriend that will get in the way. In Season 2, Maggie was an emotional mess, and Jim was involved with a reporter, Hallie Shea (Grace Gummer), whom he met on the campaign trail.
Hallie later became Jim's girlfriend and the reporter is a series regular in the new episodes. Fans can expect some drama from this new love triangle brewing among the three main characters.
