Robert Thomas, a car mechanic received a 30-year prison sentence for attempting to buy a 10-year-old girl for $400 to keep as a sex slave.

He pleaded guilty earlier this year to charges of offering to buy a child, enticement and distribution of visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

The mechanic was arrest on 11 January after posting an advert on a social media website, requesting a girl between five and eight years of age for an 'arranged' marriage.

He wrote that he wanted a "breeding slave", according to court records.

The Alliance Police Department responded after seeing the ad, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.

Alliance Police Lieutenant John Jenkins said that Thomas wanted to buy the child to use as a sex slave and to "train her to please him".

Thomas met the 'parent' at a restaurant and once the transaction was discussed with the undercover officer, he was placed under arrested. When searched, the mechanic was found to have $400 on him at the time, police said.

On searching Thomas' home, 44 videos and 290 images of child pornography were found, together with sexual accoutrement, including bondage ropes, according to court documents.

"This sentence is well-deserved given the disturbing nature of the charges," attorney Steve Dettelbach told WKYC. "Our office remains committed to working with the FBI and all our law enforcement partners to defend our children and fight human trafficking."
