The Walking Dead season 8 trailer has intrigued fans with the Old man Rick plot that hints at a major time jump. But, no one is sure whether it is just a dream sequence to divert fans mind from the plot twist or it is a real.

Robert Kirkman has opened up about the mystery and urged fans to wait and watch the premiere episode to understand why an aged Rick Grimes is waking up from a peaceful sleep. The show creator has said that it will be too early to reveal the truth behind the scene.

"Or was it the time jump? I don't know, maybe it was Rick waking up from his coma. Wouldn't that be weird? ... That is an intriguing tidbit that we did throw out there on purpose, and we're hoping that people continue to question how it is that fits into the story line and what it is," he told reporters during the Television Critics Association's summer press tour.

He mentioned that his avid comic book readers would also have difficulty in guessing the plot twist in the particular scene. "Comic book fans know where a scene that kind of looked like that would fall, but it also doesn't seem like we would be getting to that just yet if you were a comic book fan, so there's a mystery to that," he added.

The seventh season of TWD was slammed by both viewers and critics for its minimal storytelling. Kirkman assures that the eighth season is action packed and will break the characters emotionally. He said: "So in Season 8 we're trying to do a more fast-paced season, a more action-packed season, really focusing on momentum, and we feel like over the first seven seasons we kind of set all of the characters into place, and now it's time to break them to a certain extent."

Alexandria has become a war front as Negan and Rick have declared an all out war. it will be interesting to see which team wins the battle of survival. For the Alexandria Safe Zone leader, it's advantage as he has got the support from his old friend Carol, King Ezekiel and his Kingdom and Tara's team of Hilltop.

The sadist Savior leader, on the other hand, has plenty of resources and the support of the Junkyard survivors. But the five-minute long trailer of the post apocalyptic zombie series hints at a thicker plot which appears to be more than just the Negan Vs Rick battle. The Walking Dead season 8 will return on 22 October.
