US Olympic medalist Aly Raisman has decided an American football player who wooed her via a video is "very cute," and agreed to go out on a date with him.

"I was just asking a girl on a date," Oakland Raiders' tight-end Colton Underwood said, stunned by the media hoopla over his video request. "And it turned into something much bigger."

Underwood arranged his video, which was sprung on Raisman during an interview. During the chat, a reporter asked the three-time gold-medal winner what type of person she would like to date.

"Obviously you want a guy who can date a girl who's successful and driven and has a career and has a goal. But you don't want that to be the reason why they're dating you," Raisman said. "I personally feel like I have a lot in common with athletes. I would obviously want to date someone who likes to work out, just because you could work out together and you have stuff in common."

That was when the interviewer handed his iPhone to Raisman so she could watch the video. A smiling Underwood, wearing a backwards baseball cap congratulated Raisman on all her Olympic success, saying: "I've been following along."

He then said: "If you're ever in in San Jose and want to go on a double-date with me, [along with Raisman pal and Olympian Shawn Johnson and her Raiders husband Andrew East] let me know."

He's "very cute," Raisman said on the spot "Yeah, I'd go on a date with him."

Raisman answered Underwood on Twitter, thanking the 24-year-old player for his "sweet video."

Now the world knows how Underwood asked Raisman out and his video is playing on an endless loop in the Raiders' locker room, much to Underwood's embarrassment.

"I was like, 'Hey man, you put yourself out on a limb there, bro,'" quarterback Derek Carr told ESPN.

"That's a lonely feeling being out there on a limb, man. I'm happy for him, and she made a good decision saying yes, because he's a really good guy. I hope it works out for him."

"We have a celebrity in our midst," said coach Jack Del Rio. "It's amazing how things get traction. I think young men doing what young men do, and [he] invited out a really decorated Olympian, so that's a pretty neat story."

Underwood later told reporters Raisman's answer "was exciting" and said: "Now I'm going to have to figure out a time in the schedule with the season coming up.

"But she's actually scheduled to be out here in September, so I'm looking forward to attending that show and catching up with her."
