OnePlus 2
The Chinese smartphone may launch the OnePlus X this year OnePlus

Chinese handset maker OnePlus, which recently launched the high-end OnePlus 2, is rumoured to launch yet another smartphone this year. Reports suggest that the OnePlus X would be a mid-range handset and could be launched as early as October 2015.

GizmoChina has reported that the OnePlus X will be a pure mid-range device, unlike the OnePlus 2 and could feature the following key technical specs:

  • 5in display
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 SoC processor
  • Dual cameras
  • Fingerprint sensors

This smartphone would target budget-conscious buyers and may be priced at $249 (£165). Going by what OnePlus founder Carl Pei had said earlier in the year, the latest update gains momentum, as the tech tycoon had claimed another OnePlus handset would be released in 2015.

Nonetheless, it is not clear whether OnePlus would follow its invitation system to sell the OnePlus X as well. At present the OnePlus 2 can be purchased only via an invitation. To obtain invites, buyers need to register via OnePlus' customised reservation list and invites are then emailed to them.
