A 34-year-old man has been charged after allegedly impregnating his girlfriend's 10-year-old daughter in Marion, Indiana. Nicholas Deon Thrash faces 10 counts of child molestation.

The unnamed child is now 20-weeks pregnant. Her mother, 32, is also behind bars at Grant County Jail and faces two charges of neglect.

Thrash, believed to be originally from New York, was arrested last Wednesday (17 May) after Marion Police released a plea for him on its Facebook page.

He was living with a new girlfriend, who did not know about the allegations made against him.

The victim's grandmother told WISHTV that she had known and trusted Thrash throughout the time he lived with her daughter and granddaughter.

"He's not the type of person that you'd think would do something like this. We invited him into our home. He helped my husband all he could," she said.

The grandmother is now terrified about the psychological and physical threats posed to her granddaughter by the 20-week pregnancy.

"Now her whole life has changed. She's scared being this far along and having to carry this baby," she said.

"She came out and asked: 'Can I get my Barbies?' I said: 'Of course you can.' She is still a little girl that wants to play that has to grow up overnight," she added.

WTHR reports that Thrash is being held on $500,000 (£385,000) bail while the child's mother is held on a $100,000 cash bond.

Neighbours close to the home where Thrash was arrested expressed their shock and disgust at the developments.

"That's just sickening," said Dantay Smith.

"It's just sad to see somebody do something like that to a child, so young, so little. Why would you even think about doing something like that?"

Akem Williams said: "It's crazy, especially a grown man and 10-year-old child. It's like what's the world coming to? What's America coming to?"
