A convicted paedophile who was performing in a concert at a cathedral in Argentina was beaten to death by the angry parents of children he had earlier molested. Marcelo Fabian Pecollo, 42, was playing with the Moron City Orchestra in Buenos Aires when he was attacked, one parent reportedly battering him with his own trumpet.

The incident took place in the suburb of Moron on 30th October 2016 and Pecollo died on 2 November. In 2010 he was sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexually abusing five children under the age of five at a local pre-school. His sentence was reduced in 2014 and he was released after serving just four years.

According to Mail Online the angry parents burst in as the concert was in progress shouting: "There is a paedophile and a rapist in the church and he is playing in this orchestra." Pecollo tried to get away but was caught and severely beaten.

Local priest Jorge Oesterheld witnessed the end of the attack. "When I arrived, those people were leaving," Oesterheld told Argentine media. "He was in a very, very bad way, until the police and ambulance arrived. He was in a coma and died on Friday." He criticised the attackers, adding: "They say they took justice into their own hands, but it was revenge, it was murder."

According to the Metro, Pocello was first arrested in 2007 when a four-year-old girl's mother made a complaint. Six other complaints were made, and a total of five were recognised for trial. Pocello's defence lawyer Juan Rappazo reportedly appealed to the judge to provide some form of protection on learning a group of parents were out for revenge but apparently Pocello was not being protected when he was attacked. There are no reports of any arrests being made in the case.
