Paris Jackson and her godfather Macaulay Culkin have proved the ultimate commitment to each other by getting matching tattoos.

During their day of bonding, the duo were seen heading to the Tattoo Mania parlour in West Hollywood on 29 July. Jackson, 19, later debuted their artwork on Snapchat with the pair holding out their arms showing off their new spoon tattoos.

Although Jackson did not share the meaning of their matching ink, there is a long-running theory that spoon tattoos are meant to symbolise a variety of chronic illnesses.

It appears to be the only tattoo on Culkin's right arm but Jackson has previously confirmed having more than 50. In a heartfelt Instagram post shared in 2016, Jackson explained how the scars around her body represent a "dark past" but the tattoos embody a positive future. The teen wrote: "The craftsmanship of tattoos will always be a controversy. some people like them, some people absolutely hate them. i appreciate art, i always have. especially when that art means something to me."

She continued: "Today i can look at my inner forearms and see art that has meaning for me, i don't see a dark past anymore. my scars and past of self-hatred have been covered by loving marks, creativity, ingenuity.. and depth. sure i will always carry my past with me, but i see ink as a way of changing for the better, always improving. they represent strength for me.

"I look back at my old self and then i look in the mirror, and i see a fighter looking back at me. i'll always keep fighting, and encouraging others to stay strong. we all go through hell every now and then but it makes us the warriors of love we were meant to be. so to anyone struggling, it gets better. you're not alone."

Jackson and Culkin, 36, are known to be close and are often spotted hanging out together on her social media channels. In December, Jackson posted a picture of herself giving the Home Alone star a pedicure with the caption: "Model? nah i paint hipsters toenails for a living." On another occasion, Jackson described Culkin as the "best godfather ever".

During his years as a child actor, Culkin developed a close relationship with Jackson's late father, Michael Jackson. In a 2009 interview with Larry King, Culkin opened up on his bond with the Thriller singer and how they became friends, explaining: "Then he calls me up kind of out of the blue and it's just this weird, random kind of thing. Why don't you come over to my house? Thing is, I didn't react to him the way most people did. Most people are like Michael Jackson, and you know, he was a god to people. And to me, I knew he was a pop singer but beyond that, I wasn't one of the fans. I think that's one of the reasons why we connected."
