Prince Harry Reportedly 'Quaking in His Boots' Over 'Tiaragate' Documentary Revealing New Secrets
A planned drama film titled Trouble could revisit the disputed 'Tiaragate' episode involving Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and Angela Kelly

Prince Harry is facing renewed scrutiny over the disputed 'Tiaragate' episode as a planned drama explores Queen Elizabeth II's close relationship with her former dresser, Angela Kelly.
The project, reportedly titled Trouble, was initially understood to be a documentary. It has since developed into a scripted drama film for Fox Searchlight, with Jeremy Brock writing the screenplay and Thea Sharrock attached to direct. The film is expected to explore the relationship between the late Queen and Kelly, although its finished content has not been confirmed. The project and Sharrock's involvement are supported by Brock's agency.
Prince Harry and the 'Tiaragate' Dispute
The reported film has renewed attention on the disputed episode involving Meghan Markle's wedding tiara. The account was discussed in Finding Freedom, the 2020 biography by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, and later by Harry in his memoir Spare.
According to Finding Freedom, Harry became frustrated with Kelly over access to Queen Mary's Diamond Bandeau, which Meghan had selected to wear at her May 2018 wedding to Harry. The disagreement centred on arranging access to the tiara for a pre-wedding hair trial.
It was not, as some versions of the story suggest, simply a case of Kelly preventing Meghan from choosing a suitable wedding tiara. The available accounts describe a dispute over access and arrangements, while the circumstances remain contested.
In Spare, Harry described Kelly as 'obstructive' and called her a 'troublemaker.' That account contrasted with Kelly's description of her close relationship with the late Queen.
Other accounts have added different details to the episode. Recent reporting based on Robert Hardman's 2026 book has presented a competing version, including claims that Elizabeth supported Kelly's handling of the tiara. That makes the dispute particularly unsuitable for casual retelling as settled fact.
The project is being written by Brock, who also wrote the 2024 three-part television series A Very Royal Scandal. The series dramatised Prince Andrew's 2019 Newsnight interview with Emily Maitlis.
Richard Eden said on Palace Confidential that the late Queen regarded Kelly as being 'like a sister.' He also explained Kelly's nickname, 'AK-47,' which combined her initials with a reference to the firearm.
Eden said there had been 'really lively rows' involving Harry, Meghan and Kelly, adding that Harry was 'particularly unpleasant' about Kelly in his memoir. Those are Eden's characterisations, not independently established findings.
There is no confirmation that 'Tiaragate' will feature in Trouble. Nor is there evidence that Harry has reacted to the reported film. Current reporting likewise does not confirm that the alleged additional incident will appear in the project.
Angela Kelly's Royal Connection
Kelly's official responsibilities extended beyond dressing. She worked as a personal assistant, adviser and curator, and became one of Elizabeth's most trusted aides.
In a 2026 interview with Vanity Fair, Kelly described the monarch as her 'best friend.' She said their relationship was based on 'trust, loyalty, and understanding.'
Kelly also recalled quieter moments away from public duties. She said Elizabeth listened to Terry Wogan on BBC Radio 2, particularly enjoying ABBA's 'Dancing Queen.'
'When the song "Dancing Queen" came on, she loved it, and both of us would dance,' Kelly said. 'The Queen would move from side to side and sing.'
Kelly added that she would sometimes become too enthusiastic, prompting Elizabeth to tell her to 'move over.' The anecdote offers a warmer picture of their relationship, but it does not settle the disagreement involving Meghan's wedding tiara.
Following Elizabeth's death in 2022, Kelly left royal service and later moved from her grace-and-favour home on the Windsor Estate. It is not known whether she has contributed to the film.
Charlotte Griffiths suggested that Trouble could address more than the tiara episode. She speculated that it might revisit another unspecified incident involving Harry and Meghan, claiming the couple would not want it examined.
'Apparently, there's another incident from around that time that they, Harry and Meghan, are praying does not come out in this drama,' Griffiths said.
She then said Harry should be 'quaking in his boots.' The remark was Griffiths' hyperbolic characterisation, not evidence of Harry's state of mind or confirmation that an additional incident exists.
The film's release date and final contents have not been announced. Until further details emerge from Fox Searchlight or the filmmakers, claims about what Trouble will reveal should be treated cautiously.
