Rosie O'Donnell Says ABC Blocked Epstein Survivors Segment From 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' Before She Released It Herself

Comedian and actress Rosie O'Donnell has revealed that ABC rejected her plan to feature survivors of Jeffrey Epstein's sexual abuse during her recent stint guest-hosting 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!,' prompting her to take the project into her own hands.

The comedian said she wanted to dedicate her final night behind Kimmel's desk to what she called an 'Epstein reveal,' but claimed the network made clear that the proposed segment could not go ahead. Weeks later, O'Donnell released footage featuring eight Epstein survivors herself on social media.

Rosie O'Donnell Reveals ABC's Response

O'Donnell detailed the behind-the-scenes dispute during a September appearance on 'The Jann Arden Podcast,' where she discussed her return to television and advocacy for Epstein survivors.

'My idea for the last night was to do the Epstein reveal,' O'Donnell said, before recalling ABC's response.

'And they said that they were certain that could not happen,' she added.

O'Donnell said she then decided to pursue the idea independently rather than abandon it, telling the podcast: 'Well, then I'm going to do it myself.'

ABC and 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' representatives had not responded to requests for comment reported by HuffPost, leaving the network's reasoning for rejecting the proposed segment unclear.

What Was in O'Donnell's Epstein Survivors Video?

Two weeks after her 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' guest-hosting stint, O'Donnell posted footage featuring eight women who identified themselves as Epstein survivors.

The women appeared dressed in white alongside O'Donnell and joined together to sing Helen Reddy's feminist anthem 'I Am Woman.'

O'Donnell told the women they were 'all heroes' and said she believed their actions could change how the world responds to child sexual abuse.

She later clarified that the project was not a full documentary, despite some viewers believing there was a longer production waiting to be released.

O'Donnell told Arden that the footage was filmed in only a few hours after she contacted a survivor advocate and asked how many women could gather within three days.

Why Rosie O'Donnell Contacted Epstein Survivors

O'Donnell has linked her decision to contact the women to her criticism of Attorney General Todd Blanche and the Justice Department's handling of material related to Epstein.

In July, Epstein survivors criticised Blanche after the Justice Department released files that, according to their statement, exposed personal information and nude photographs of some survivors while withholding information about alleged abusers.

The survivors accused Blanche of protecting 'the people who committed crimes against us'.

O'Donnell subsequently criticised Blanche in the caption accompanying her video, writing: 'Todd Blanche failed us. He failed victims everywhere. We deserve better. Our country deserves better.'

Her criticism represents O'Donnell's view of the Justice Department's handling of the case. Blanche and the department have faced continuing scrutiny over the release and redaction of Epstein-related records.

More Epstein Survivor Videos Could Follow

O'Donnell said the response to her short video has now prompted discussions about producing more detailed profiles of the eight women.

'I will do a segment on each of those women, up close and personal, and we'll tell each of their stories, eight of them,' she said.

O'Donnell said the eventual project could take several forms, including a documentary for a streaming service, individual YouTube videos or material released directly through social media.

She also claimed the survivors told her that 'no famous person has called to stand beside them' apart from her, something she described as surprising.

O'Donnell has not announced a release date or confirmed which format the proposed individual Epstein survivor stories will take.
