Ryan Reynolds Says He 'Wasn't Angry Enough' After Calling Justin Baldoni 'Predatory' in Blake Lively Case

Ryan Reynolds' unsealed private messages defending his wife, Blake Lively, have surfaced amid her ongoing legal battle with Justin Baldoni, highlighting the actor's unwavering support for his spouse.
'Yes, Ryan got involved. What husband wouldn't support his wife and the mother of his children?' the actor's representative told Puck News.
The revelations shed light on the intensity of the dispute and Reynolds' vocal stance on workplace harassment.
The statement emphasised Reynolds' belief that no husband would stand idly by when his partner faces adversity. Reynolds reportedly felt he might have been less confrontational and expressed strong backing for Lively's efforts to combat sexual harassment.
His team maintained that Reynolds is committed to advocating for a safe and respectful workplace environment, both for Lively and others in the industry.
'He saw his wife fighting daily to stand up against sexual harassment in a private and respectful way, only to face retaliation for doing so,' the rep continued.
'If anything, Ryan feels like he wasn't angry enough,' they said.
'Will stand up for the basic right to a safe workplace'
Lively, 38, filed a lawsuit in December 2024 against Baldoni, 42, claiming sexual harassment and retaliation. She seeks over $160 million in damages, and the case is set to go to trial in May 2026 in New York.
Baldoni has denied the allegations and filed a countersuit accusing Lively and Reynolds of defamation and extortion, though the countersuit was dismissed by the court.
'As stated all along, and reflected in our clients' motions, as well as in messages from Sony discussing Ms. Lively's behaviors, the evidence does not support [their] claims as a matter of law,' Bryan Freedman, Baldoni's lawyer said.
'A simple read of the newly released message exchanges make the truth abundantly clear. We remain confident in the legal process and clearing the names of all the Justin Baldoni parties,' they continued.
Baldoni's legal team argues that Lively and Reynolds leveraged their Hollywood influence to tarnish Baldoni's reputation, claiming that the allegations are part of a broader effort to undermine his career.
Conversely, Lively's attorneys assert that evidence from the case demonstrates widespread inappropriate conduct on set, dismissed by Baldoni's team as trivial.
Unsealed texts and revelations
Among the unsealed messages is a text from Reynolds sent during a significant weekend for Lively's film 'It Ends With Us,' which achieved a notable box office success.
Reynolds expressed frustration over what he perceived as unfair criticism, stating that Lively deserved to celebrate her achievement. He criticised Baldoni and his team, describing them as making a 'big f---ing mess' and suggesting they should acknowledge her contributions publicly.
'I'm super frustrated because this is a moment in which Blake should be celebrating. She made this unbelievable win happen,' Reynold's text unsealed.
'She willed this weekend into reality. Baldoni and these other buckets of dumb-dumb-juice should be acknowledging the speculation and gossip themselves. They should be jumping in front of it in the most full throated, unqualified way. Now,' he wrote.
In another message from July 2024, Reynolds referred to Baldoni as a 'thoroughbred, predatory fraudster' and an 'inexplicably toxic mess.'
He also defended Lively's reputation, asserting that she has worked with many difficult individuals but had never encountered anyone as vile as Baldoni. Reynolds described Baldoni's behaviour as a 'character study in malignant, lazy-lidded stupidity and darkness.'
'Put Blake's reputation on trial any day of the week'
The release of Reynolds' texts has sparked debate within Hollywood about power dynamics, workplace harassment, and the influence of celebrity status in legal disputes.
While some see Reynolds' messages as a defence of his wife's character and integrity, others view them as an example of Hollywood's often opaque and complex interpersonal conflicts.
Baldoni's team maintains that the allegations are part of a smear campaign, claiming that Lively and Reynolds misused their fame to damage his career.
The controversy has also led to Baldoni being dropped by his agency, WME, in December 2024. WME publicly denied any pressure was exerted by Reynolds or Lively to sever ties with Baldoni, refuting claims of coercion.
