Nine people, including girls aged 16 and 17, have been arrested over the death of a teenager in the early hours of Saturday (24 October). The victim, who was in his late teens, died in Watford General Hospital following an altercation in St Albans, Hertfordshire, at around 3.20am.

Hertfordshire police detectives are appealing for witnesses and information connected to the incident. According to a police statement, those arrested are: a 27-year-old woman, 29-year-old man, 28 year-old man, 24 year-old man, 22 year-old woman, 25-year-old man, 26 year-old man, 17-year-old girl and a 16-year-old girl. Details of the victim's identity or the nature of his injuries have not been released.

Detective Inspector Justine Jenkins from the Major Crime Unit said: "I am appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward. This occurred in the early hours of the morning and was likely to have attracted attention of anyone in the immediate area.

"If you saw or heard anything that may be connected, or if you have information about the incident, please contact the police as soon as possible. Please call me via the non-emergency number 101."

The news comes a day after four people, including a girl of 15, were charged with the murder of Darren Kelly in Basildon, Essex on Tuesday (20 October). Kelly, 42, was found in the street with serious stab wounds after what is believed to be a confrontation with local youths.

He was treated by paramedics and an air ambulance crew before being taken to Basildon Hospital, where he died from his injuries. A post-mortem examination found that the cause of death was multiple stab wounds and blood loss.
