Supernatural season 11 fall finale blew fans over with some twisted revelations and major cliffhangers. Sam Winchester was trapped in Lucifer's cage with the devil himself, while Amara revealed that she and Dean are destined to be together and kissed the hunter.

In the fall finale, Mark Pellegrino returned as the devil and Sam fell victim to his classic trick. The visions that Sam was having were not from God but it was Lucifer's mind games to tick him back into the cage. Lucifer tells Sam: "God is not with you, he was never with you. I guess I am your only hope."

In episode 9 titled O Brother, Where Art Thou? Amara tries to reach out to her brother God but when prayers fail, she resorts to massacre to earn God's attention. When Dean confronts her, she explains that she is not a threat.

She tells him God was threatened by her. He feared that she would make a more perfect creation, so he exiled her and passed down stories that she was a threat.

She also blasts the Bible thumpers and says God's religion is nothing but a ruse to feed his ego. He offers people safety if they adore him. But with her, there would be no rules, no prayer. There would only be bliss.

"I was the beginning and I will be the end. I will be all that there is," she tells Dean. Amara denies being like her brother and says: "God was the light. I am the dark."

When Dean attempts to stab Amara, she tries to take his soul but ends up kissing him and says: "We are bonded, [because] you are the one who set me free." When Dean says it was an accident, Amara claims it was destiny and adds: "You and I will be together... we will become one, why wouldn't you want that?"

Their discussion is cut short when a bunch of Angels shows up and a fight breaks out between them. When Amara kills them, suddenly the sky turns dark and stormy, and she willingly lets the black cloud whisk her away. Maybe she will finally have a chat with her brother?

The show has gone on a long winter hiatus and will return with all new episodes on 20 January, 2016, on The CW. The network has released a trailer for its midseason premiere episode, titled The Devil in the Details, which teases that the series will celebrate a late Christmas.

Warning: Spoilers ahead

The trailer shows Lucifer in a Santa suit, Sam and Lucifer in a cage in Hell, Castiel with some letters carved on his chest and Dean searching for someone door-to-door. The upcoming episodes of the series may feature Dean going to Hell to bring back Sam, Amara's reunion with her long-lost brother and Dean trying to come to terms with the implications of his and Amara's destiny.

Jared Padalecki previously teased that episode 9 and 10 are his favorite. He told TVLine: "Episodes 9 (the fall finale) and 10 are my favorite episodes of Supernatural in a long, long time. I love the twists and turns — none of which I can probably say without getting out of here alive."

Previously, Jensen Ackles teased that Amara may not be the ultimate evil in the story. He told Entertainment Weekly: "She is still assessing what this creation is that God made and I think the very famous line of her so far is that 'He is the light and I am the opposite of that, I am the Darkness.' What's interesting is, I'm not sure if that's inherently bad or if that actually could be something that is beneficial."

Ackles explained: "It's weird. We're setting it up as the ultimate evil, but there's also this question of, 'Well, is it?' And I think we're going to try to play with that a little bit. So does she think that everyone is the enemy? No, I don't think so. It's an interesting character and I don't know how we're going to deal with it."
