In a social media video, a gay influencer couple known on the internet as 'Toby's Home' for their home renovation and organisation ideas, Toby and Mikey Perryman-Payne fearlessly shared with the world the most harrowing story they've experienced. The queer couple revealed that while on vacation in 2024, they were drugged and sexually assaulted. Here's everything about their traumatic story.

'Toby's Home' Shared They Were Drugged and Sexually Assaulted

A few weeks ago, Toby and Mikey's followers saw a different side of the couple as they bravely shared a traumatic story.

The influencer couple shared a video with an overlay caption that read: 'We were drugged and sexually assaulted.' They said that the story was something they never thought they would share online.

This is something we never thought we'd share online. But we've always spoken openly about our mental health, and this is a big part of that story. I honestly felt embarrassed and ashamed about what happened, like it was my fault, and was unsure how to even explain it. And I don't want anyone else to feel that way about something that was never their fault. Trigger warning: se*ual assault. ‼️ When it happened, we didn't really know how to process it. I was already in a low place mentally, struggling with depression, and I wasn't ready to face the emotional impact of being violated like that. It took a long time for us both to properly acknowledge what had happened. To understand why we started pulling away from a lot of social situations and why I felt more anxious. It took a long time to realise why parts of my life that used to bring me most joy suddenly felt a lot harder. Talking about it now isn't about reopening wounds for us, but more about removing shame. And it's also to remind anyone who's been through something similar that your feelings are valid, healing takes time (!!) and none of what happened was your fault. We're choosing to move forward with openness instead of fear. And if sharing this helps even one person feel less alone, it's worth it.

They added, 'But we've always spoken openly about our mental health, and this is a big part of that story. I honestly felt embarrassed and ashamed about what happened, like it was my fault, and was unsure how to even explain it. And I don't want anyone else to feel that way about something that was never their fault'.

In the video, Toby shared what happened on their Los Angeles getaway back in 2024. He said, 'We went for dinner in West Hollywood and then went to a bar afterwards. We ordered one drink and then completely blacked out'.

Toby went on, 'I then woke up in a completely strange place, with a person I didn't recognise and I had been completely stripped of all my clothes'.

The influencer then shared that when he 'woke up from being drugged', he was 'really scared about what was happening' and realised that his husband was not with him.

'I then managed to convince the person to let me leave the room with him to see Mikey,' Toby continued, and said that there's another person passed out on the sofa.

Mikey also said that Toby's quick thinking 'saved' both of them, and they managed to get out.

Couple Admit They Were in a 'Low Place Mentally'

In the caption of their video, the couple admitted that after the assault, they were in a 'low place mentally' and were struggling with depression. Toby and Mikey also said that they didn't talk about it sooner or share the story in fear of 'how people would react'.

'When it happened, we didn't really know how to process it. I was already in a low place mentally, struggling with depression, and I wasn't ready to face the emotional impact of being violated like that', they wrote.

The couple revealed that it took them a long time to 'properly acknowledge' what happened, and it's their reason they avoided social gatherings.

'Since then, which led us mainly stopping drinking, trying away from a lot of social events and also not going on holiday this year,' Toby said on the video.

Opening Up Means 'Taking Control' of Their Lives

Towards the end of the video, Toby and Mikey said that they decided to talk about the traumatic experience because they are 'trying to change things' and 'taking control of our life'.

Toby said: 'We're taking our power back. We're taking control of our life, and we're not letting stupid i***** like that ruin our existence. And so we are going on holiday tomorrow, which we are really looking forward to. And we just want to get back into the swing of our real life'.

In the caption, they also said that talking about the experience 'isn't about reopening wounds for us, but more about removing shame'.

'And it's also to remind anyone who's been through something similar that your feelings are valid, healing takes time (!!) and none of what happened was your fault,' they added.

'We're choosing to move forward with openness instead of fear. And if sharing this helps even one person feel less alone, it's worth it,' they concluded.

The couple shared the snaps of their vacation more than a year after the harrowing experience.
