The claims have prompted fresh debate over money, political access and the Trump family's connections to wealthy foreign figures.

Hidden Camera Captures $300K Pardon Operation

A hidden-camera investigation featured by CBS' 60 Minutes examined claims that people seeking presidential pardons could spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to gain access to influential figures around the White House.

In one recorded conversation, an intermediary allegedly said that securing help for a pardon would cost $300,000 (£222,000). The money was reportedly intended to cover access-building efforts, including tickets to events at Mar-a-Lago, political fundraisers and the use of influencers and other well-connected figures.

The person involved described a strategy of putting pressure on President Donald Trump from multiple directions until the pardon application reached him.

The investigation also featured rapper Boosie BadAzz, who said he was led to believe that paying $600,000 (£444,000) would secure a pardon. He said he paid the money after being told influential people could help move his application forward.

'If you come with this money, you will get a pardon,' he said, describing what he believed he had been promised.

Former Pardon Official Calls Payments Unprecedented

The allegations have drawn sharp criticism from a former US pardon attorney, who said the amounts involved were far outside the normal pardon process.

According to the discussion, around 90 per cent of pardon applicants did not have lawyers representing them during the former official's time in the role, making the alleged use of lobbyists and paid intermediaries particularly striking.

The former official also argued that buying access to a government benefit raises serious corruption concerns.

The White House has pushed back on the allegations. A spokesperson said they had worked closely with the pardon team and claimed that nobody involved in the reported operation had ever approached or communicated with them.

Russian Oligarch Linked to Trump Jr Wedding

The pardon allegations surfaced alongside renewed attention on Donald Trump Jr.'s relationship with Russian wealth.

A ProPublica report examined the involvement of Russian businessman Umar Kremlev in celebrations associated with Trump Jr.'s Bahamas wedding. Kremlev has close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin and has faced sanctions from Ukraine.

The report said Kremlev hosted two nights of celebrations after Trump Jr. and Bettina Anderson were privately married. It also questioned why a wealthy Trump family member would accept such extensive hospitality from a figure with close links to Putin.

The issue has attracted particular attention because of the Trump family's long-running political and financial scrutiny over Russia.

ProPublica cited a retired FBI official who raised a blunt concern about accepting financial support from someone with powerful interests: 'If I'm paying for you, at some point, you're going to owe me something.'

Trump Jr.'s wife rejected the implication of a hidden political arrangement, describing the celebrations as a generous wedding gift from a friend.
