Woman Wearing 'Release Epstein Files' Shirt Punched at Trump Rally as President Calls Her 'Scum' and Crowd Chants 'USA'
President brands her a paid protester and misgenders her onstage

A woman wearing a 'Release the Epstein Files' shirt was punched in the face by an apparent supporter of President Donald Trump during a campaign rally in Youngstown, Ohio, on Monday, 12 October, as the president called protesters 'scum' and the crowd chanted 'USA'.
The confrontation broke out at the Covelli Centre, where Trump was campaigning for Republican Senator Jon Husted ahead of November's midterm elections. The president was criticising Husted's Democratic opponent, Sherrod Brown, when a disturbance erupted in the stands. The crowd turned towards the woman, who had been heckling during the speech.
Video of the rally that circulated widely on social media showed a male attendee shoving the woman to the ground, striking her in the face and pulling her by the hair. The footage appeared to show him trying to force her head towards the floor. Several officers then reached the row, took her by the collar of her jacket and steered her towards an exit.
As she was led away, the woman raised her middle finger towards the crowd. The man who struck her appeared to remain inside the venue and was seen exchanging high-fives with other attendees. It was not immediately clear whether any arrests had been made.
The woman was not publicly identified, and there was no confirmed information about whether she was injured or received medical treatment.
Trump Tells the Heckler to 'Go on a Diet'
From the stage, Trump repeatedly referred to the protester as a man and claimed the person had been paid to disrupt the event. He said the protester received money from, in his words, 'the lefties in order to destroy our country', and called such protesters 'scum'.
He then turned to the protester's appearance. 'He's a fat guy, wow,' Trump said, urging the person to 'go on a diet fast'. He told the audience the protester was 'going back home to mom' and claimed that the protester's parents had voted for him.
The crowd broke into chants of 'U-S-A, U-S-A' as he continued. Trump also described the demonstrator as 'a very low-class protester'.
The Epstein Files Fight Behind the Shirt
The woman's shirt connected the incident to a political dispute that has followed Trump for months. The slogan referred to demands for the full release of government records on Jeffrey Epstein, the financier and convicted sex offender who died in a Manhattan jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex-trafficking charges.
Congress passed the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which Trump signed into law on 19 November 2025. The legislation required the Justice Department to release records relating to Epstein, subject to specified exemptions and redactions.
The Justice Department said in January 2026 that it had published nearly 3.5 million pages in compliance with the law. However, the disclosures have continued to face scrutiny from Democrats and members of Trump's own party over the handling and completeness of the released material.
The issue has also surfaced in the Ohio Senate race. Brown's campaign has criticised Husted over political donations from retail billionaire Les Wexner, who previously employed Epstein as his financial adviser.
Wexner has not been charged with any crime related to Epstein and has denied knowledge of his criminal activities. Husted's campaign said it donated approximately $34,300 in remaining Wexner contributions to Freedom a la Cart, a nonprofit supporting survivors of human trafficking. The campaign said earlier contributions had already been spent.
The Ohio Senate Race That Drew Trump to Youngstown
Monday's stop was part of Trump's campaign efforts ahead of the November midterm elections. Husted is defending the Senate seat he was appointed to fill against Brown, who is trying to return to Washington after losing to Republican Bernie Moreno in 2024. Trump also backed Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy during the trip.
holy shit -- a protester at the Trump rally gets physically assaulted after they interrupt the rally by a man who punches her in the face. Trump smears the protester as a "fat guy" https://t.co/DI1TG2uGBH

The contest has drawn national attention as Republicans seek to retain control of the Senate and Democrats attempt to gain seats in November.
Trump won Ohio by approximately 11 percentage points in the 2024 presidential election. He also carried Mahoning County, where Youngstown is located, with 54.09% of the vote against Democratic nominee Kamala Harris's 44.72%.
Republicans are counting on the president to encourage turnout among voters who might otherwise skip a midterm election. The midterm elections are scheduled for Tuesday, 3 November 2026.
