Trump Warns 'Very Big Things' Are Coming for Iran as He Weighs Attack, Economic Pressure or Deal

US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that 'very big things' were coming for Iran as he weighs military action, further economic pressure or a deal, according to Fox News chief foreign correspondent Trey Yingst, who said he had spoken with Trump shortly before appearing on Fox & Friends Weekend.

Tehran said it had sent Washington conditions through mediators for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ending the conflict, raising the prospect of negotiations while military and economic options remain on the table.

Trump also told Yingst he would 'probably' be open to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during the United Nations General Assembly in New York later this week.

Trump Says He Is in 'Deciding Mode' on Iran

Yingst told viewers that Trump described himself as being in 'deciding mode' as Washington considers its next move. According to the correspondent, Trump said 'very big things are going to be happening in the not-so-distant future' and framed the choices as 'wiping Iran out, letting them rot economically or making a deal'.

Yingst also relayed another remark from Trump. 'My question is, if and when do I blow the entire nation up? They better behave,' he quoted the president as saying.

The remarks followed similar comments Trump made on Thursday, when he told Axios he faced a decision over whether to 'go in and annihilate them', referring to the Iranian regime. His latest comments nevertheless left open the possibility of diplomacy, with the president signalling that he could meet Pezeshkian while both leaders are expected in New York.

Trump Leaves Door Open to Pezeshkian Meeting

Pezeshkian is expected to attend the UN General Assembly with a senior Iranian delegation and hold discussions with leaders from several countries on the sidelines of the gathering.

Asked whether a meeting with the Iranian president was possible, Trump answered 'probably', according to Yingst. No meeting was confirmed in the information available.

Yingst said Trump had described the weekend as no different from any other despite alerts issued to US citizens across the region. He also pointed to the wider security picture, including what he described as the ongoing US naval blockade and attacks by Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen targeting Saudi Arabia with missiles and drones.

According to Yingst, Trump said the United States remained in constant communication with the Houthis and that the group had agreed not to fight US forces.

Iran Sets Conditions as Trump Considers Next Move

Iran, meanwhile, said it had communicated seven conditions to the United States through Qatar as part of efforts to resume negotiations and end the war. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said the conditions had been passed to Washington, while Mohsen Rezaei said Tehran had sent its demands through Qatar, which is acting as a mediator.

Rezaei listed an end to the war on all fronts, the release of frozen Iranian funds and an end to the naval blockade among Tehran's demands. 'Our conditions are an end to the war on all fronts, the release of our frozen funds and an end to the naval blockade,' he told Al Jazeera.

Rezaei publicly detailed six demands, although Iranian officials described the package sent to Washington as containing seven conditions.

Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya joint military command claimed on Sunday that it had received information suggesting the United States, with support from several regional countries, was preparing another military operation against Tehran. It did not publicly provide evidence for the claim.

It warned that regional countries supporting any renewed US attack would be considered parties to the conflict, while threatening sustained retaliation against US bases and interests.
