At least two people have died after six tourists were stabbed at a hotel resort in Egypt.

A man has been arrested following the attack at the Red Sea resort in Hurghada, Egypt's Interior Ministry said.

Both the victims killed by the suspect were Ukrainian.

According to reports, the suspect swam from a nearby beach in order to gain access into the resort. The motive for the attack is unclear.

Three tourists were injured in a similar attack at the Bella Vista Hotel in Hurghada in January 2016. Security forces shot both "drugged" attackers, killing one and wounding the other before arresting him

Today's attack occurred after five policeman were killed by masked gunmen on a motorcycle close to the pyramids in Giza. The drive-by shooting in the early hours of the morning took place in the village of Abusir in Badrashin, part of Greater Cairo.
