A 15-year-old boy has died after climbing on to a train and being struck by overhead power lines in Wakefield, Sky News reports.

A 16-year-old male and 18-year-old female were also injured in the incident at Wrenthorpe Sidings around 6.40pm, according to the British Transport Police (BTP).

Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening. They are being treated at Pinderfields Hospital.

The BTP said in a statement: "The two boys and girl appeared to be on the railway line when the 15-year-old climbed onto the train when he came into contact with the power lines."

The incident is not being treated as suspicious.

The coroner and the Rail Regulation Office have been informed, the BTP said.
