Viking Season 3 spoilers
Fans are eager to learn how King Ragnar will react when he learns that Floki has killed Athelstan Vikings/Facebook

Viking fans are reeling with two major deaths in two consecutive episodes and the latest one is none other than King Ragnar's best friend Athelstan.

In the previous episode Born Again, Floki kills the former Christian monk as he believes that Athelstan is the reason Aethelwulf and king Ecbert went on a manslaughter rampage in Wessex.

Both the Norse ruler and the shipbuilder derive different meanings from the Wessex attack and the latter kills Athelstan brutally just when he experienced a rebirth of faith.

However, his death will psychologically shatter Ragnar who trusted the former Christian monk like his best friend. He claims that he will never be the same again and digs the grave to bury his deceased friend and crafts a cross over it before shaving his head.

"This is Ragnar paying tribute to Athelstan by doing the same thing. It's also a visible sign that he's a changed person, though. What I didn't want to do ... It's not a Western, so I didn't want him to turn around and immediately get the guy. He's clearly going to get the man who did this but that's for the future," show creator Michael Hirst told Zap2it.

Amidst the sorrow and pain, Lagertha's former husband plans to hide the news of king Ecbert's betrayal from his army and plans to move ahead and attack Paris.

He, however, vows to avenge the Wessex killing after he conquers the mythical and impenetrable city.

The official synopsis of episode 7 Paris reads: "The populace of Paris will be in a panic after the appearance of the Viking fleet. Emperor Charles, at the behest of his daughter, is going to announce he'll remain in the city."
