The official synopsis of episode 9 titled Rise Up reads:

After the attack, the Institute and The Clave are on high alert and taking no prisoners to get answers. When Lydia makes a harsh call on the Seelies, Jace, Clary and Isabelle fear that this decision could be disastrous and the wrong way to defeat Valentine. Left with no other choice, the trio take drastic actions to stop what is about to take place.

Meanwhile, Simon struggles to deal with his new situation, and Alec is emotionally torn with what is happening at the Institute.

According to the episode description, Alec will be shattered emotionally due to the ongoing chaos and how it badly affected his family's reputation. In the previous episode, he proposed to Lydia, in an attempt to re-establish the Lightwood honour.

In the upcoming episode, the institute will be under fierce attack from Valentine, Clary's father and a dangerous rogue Shadowhunter. Previously, he not only demanded the Mortal Cup after kidnapping Jocelyn, Clary's mother, he had also been plotting to ruin the lives of each member of his tribe.

But McNamara's character will have to pay a heavy price in her struggle with Valentine as her friend Simon will transform into a vampire. "One of the big things in the book, which we also see on the show, is when Simon realizes he can no longer say the name of God or enter a house of worship," Alberto Rosende, who plays Simon, explains to TV Line. "We haven't touched on it much on the show, but his religion is very close to who he is. It really helps him define himself. So for him to no longer be an active part of that, it's like his identity was stolen."

Rosende also teased that the new situations will bring Simon and Clary closer. "If Simon had stayed a regular mundane, it would have created even more of a separation between him and Clary; she's spending so much of her time with the Shadowhunters. Although Simon is completely destroyed over becoming a vampire, I think a part of him is happy to be back in the same world as Clary," he added.

Shadowhunters airs every Tuesday on Freeform.
