Robin Williams AI Videos Spark Fury as Daughter Zelda Says Dead Actor Is Being Turned Into a 'Puppet'

Robin Williams' daughter Zelda Williams has issued a furious plea for people to stop creating and circulating AI-generated videos of her late father after a fake 'private video' appeared to show the comedian discussing conspiracy theories.

The Lisa Frankenstein director said the Robin Williams AI video was 'clearly AI' and criticised both its creator and those who believed it was authentic. Her intervention comes just weeks after she and her brothers revived their father's Instagram account partly to combat what they described as 'rampant AI abuse' of his voice and likeness.

Zelda Williams Slams Robin Williams AI 'Private Video'

Zelda addressed the latest AI-generated Robin Williams clip in a social media post on 21 September, saying the supposedly private footage was 'not even particularly convincing AI.'

She said anyone familiar with her father's work should have recognised that something was wrong with the voice, describing it as 'robotic and terrible.'

Her criticism, however, went beyond the quality of the AI recreation. Zelda accused its creator of using a dead man to make a message appear more convincing and questioned the ethics of putting words into the mouth of someone who can no longer consent.

'Leave him out of your delusional bullshit and let him rest,' she wrote, before adding: 'Just because he's gone does not mean he's now your puppet. Have some shame.'

Zelda also argued that using AI tools to recreate real people and make them perform actions they never chose to perform removes consent from the equation.

Zelda Williams Has Previously Asked Fans To Stop

The latest row is not the first time Zelda has condemned AI-generated videos featuring her father.

In October 2025, she publicly asked people to 'stop sending me AI videos of Dad,' saying she did not want to see the synthetic recreations and would not appreciate them simply because they depicted Robin Williams.

She urged people with 'any decency' to stop making and sharing such content, adding that it was 'NOT what he'd want.'

Zelda had also raised concerns about artificial intelligence in 2023, when she described hearing AI models recreate her father's voice as 'personally disturbing.' At the time, she highlighted the problem of recreating performers who could no longer consent.

Robin Williams' Children Fight Back Against AI 'Abuse'

The Williams family took another step against AI recreations in August when Zelda and her brothers, Zak and Cody, revived their father's official Instagram account.

The siblings said they wanted the page to become a 'safe, trusted place' where fans could find authentic stories, photographs, videos and memories celebrating Robin's legacy.

Zelda later explained that providing genuine material through the account was one way the family could 'fight back against rampant AI abuse of his voice and likeness.'

Robin Williams' Film Legacy Lives On

Robin Williams died in August 2014 at the age of 63, leaving behind a career spanning stand-up comedy, television and some of Hollywood's most recognisable films.

The Oscar-winning actor starred in Mrs. Doubtfire, Jumanji, Dead Poets Society, Hook, Aladdin and Good Will Hunting, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

More than a decade after his death, his performances continue to reach new audiences, while his family is increasingly confronting AI-generated material that uses his recognisable face and voice to portray him saying things he never actually said.
