Andy Murray takes on Lukas Rosol in the men's singles first round clash of the 2016 US Open on Wednesday (31 August).

Where to watch live

The match starts at 1.30am BST (early Wednesday morning). Live coverage of the game will be available in the UK on British Eurosport 1 & 2. Live scores and regular updates will be available on US Open's official website.

Overview

World number two Andy Murray has been in brilliant form of late, winning the men's singles titles at the Rio 2016 Olympics, the 2016 Wimbledon and comes into this clash on the back of a runner-up spot in the recently concluded 2016 Cincinnati Open.

The Scot was the favourite to win the tournament but could not find a way past an inspired Marin Cilic in the final, eventually losing 4-6, 5-7 in what was a one-sided encounter. Fatigue and tiredness have been given as causes related to the loss, but there is no doubt that Murray needs a break, as he has been playing tennis round the year.

The 29-year-old who won the US Open title in 2012 has not had the best of experiences at Flushing Meadows since exiting at the quarter-final stage in 2013 and 2014 while losing in the round of 16 last year. With his main competitors in Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer either suffering from injury or absent, Murray will know that this is his best chance of securing a second US Open crown.

His opponent, Lukas Rosol, who is currently ranked number 82 in the world rankings, comes into the tournament not in the best of form, failing to qualify for the Cincinnati Masters while losing in the second round of Winston-Salem.

However, Rosol is the kind of player for whom form is irrelevant because he can be almost unbeatable on his day. The Czech Republic player will be a tough nut to crack with Murray needing to be at his best come 30 August.
