AOKP 4.2 ROM Based on Android 4.2 Available for Galaxy Nexus [Guide]

The Galaxy Nexus that received the Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) update recently now gets the Android Open Kang Project (AOKP) custom ROM, based on the latest version of Jelly Bean, courtesy XDA senior member J0ESK0.

Users who wish to install the AOKP ROM can do by following this tutorial. However, IBTimes UK warns its readers it will not be held responsible for any damage to the device during installation. The ROM is compatible only with the international variant of Galaxy Nexus; to check the device model, browser to Settings > About Phone.

Pre-Requisites

Ensure bootloader on Galaxy Nexus is unlocked

Ensure all important data is backed-up

Ensure a custom Recovery, such as TWRP, is installed

To Install AOKP 4.2 ROM on Galaxy Nexus

Download AOKP 4.2 ROM and Google Apps package

Copy both downloaded files to SD card on Nexus

Switch off device and boot into Recovery (to do so, press and hold Volume Up, Volume Down and Power buttons until a green Android logo and the letters Start appear)

Now press Volume Up to highlight Recovery mode option and boot into TWRP

Make a Nandroid back-up (to do so, tap on Backup and ensure System, Data and Boot boxes are checked and slide blue circle button to begin back-up)

Go back to the main menu, tap on Wipe and choose Factory Reset. Confirm the wipe and tap on Cache from the Wipe menu. Now, tap on Dalvik Cache and once again confirm wiping process. Press back button in order to go back to the main menu

Now, tap on Install and navigate to and select the AOKP zip file. Slide the blue circle button to begin the installation (repeat this step to install Google Apps package)
