Argentina's northern province of Chaco has been hit by a prison scandal centring on raunchy pictures of female guards which surfaced online just days after a warden was killed by an inmate.

A number of female security officers were depicted in provocative poses in two shots reportedly taken inside a detention facility in the provincial capital of Resistencia.

In one shot a warden is seen exposing her breast while posing for a group picture with four colleagues. The second snap depicts another guard showing her naked backside to the camera.

One of the women was said to be the jail's deputy superintendent, El Clarin newspaper reported.

The photos were posted online just a few days after a female warden at the same prison was killed by an inmate.

Yamile Gómez, 23, was stabbed to death by César de la Concepción, a detainee who was serving time for murder.

Concepción was reportedly walking freely around the building when he attacked Gómez, knifing her 20 times.

The murderer was later found dead in his cell in an apparent suicide that is being treated as suspicious by authorities.

Argentina is not new to scandals involving penitentiary personnel.

In 2012 six policemen in the northern city of Salta were arrested after video footage emerged showing them apparently torturing two prisoners.

In November last year another video purportedly showing prison guards ill-treating detainees in Chaco was posted online.

Torture and enforced disappearances were widely used by Argentinian security force under military rule in the 1970s and 1980s.
