Asa Germann in Final Talks To Play Angel in Marvel's X-Men After Losing Cyclops Role to Kit Connor

The Hollywood Reporter says Asa Germann is in final talks to play Angel in Marvel Studios' X-Men revival after Kit Connor secured Cyclops, following a summer of casting meetings, readings and tests.

Germann had been considered for Cyclops before the studio chose Connor. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel offered Germann the role of Warren Worthington III, also known as Angel, after considering him for Cyclops.

Asa Germann's Angel Offer Follows the Cyclops Decision

The offer would bring Germann into the same production for which he had been considered, but as a different member of the superhero team. According to the report, Marvel continued considering Germann for another role after Connor was cast as Cyclops.

His involvement remains subject to those final talks. The Hollywood Reporter described Germann as being in final talks. Marvel declined to comment.

Marvel has been building the ensemble throughout the summer, meeting actors and holding readings and tests. Several other roles have already been reported as that process has progressed.

Sadie Sink will play Jean Grey, with Christopher Abbott as Professor X and Samara Weaving as Emma Frost. Marvel's confirmed cast also includes Inde Navarrette as Rogue and Maya Boyd as Storm.

Adam Driver will play the villain Mister Sinister, another casting Marvel confirmed at D23. Angel is described as a key role in the revival, although the report gives no details of the character's place in the plot.

The Character Behind Asa Germann's Angel Talks

Angel's history begins in the first issue of X-Men, published in 1963. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Warren Worthington III has feathered wings on his back that allow him to fly.

After Warren's original wings are severely damaged and amputated, Apocalypse later transforms him, giving him razor-sharp metallic wings capable of firing biometallic feathers.

The change gives Angel a different set of abilities from those associated with his original feathered wings. It is part of his comic book history, however, and the report does not say whether the revival will adapt that transformation.

Angel has previously been portrayed twice on the big screen. Ben Foster played Warren Worthington III in X-Men: The Last Stand in 2006, while Ben Hardy portrayed a younger version of the character in X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016.

Germann would follow Foster and Hardy in portraying Warren Worthington III if his deal is completed. The casting account identifies the character being offered to him, without detailing how this version would relate to the earlier screen appearances.

Germann's Screen Credits Include Gen V and Scream 7

Germann has already worked in a superhero ensemble through his television career. He played Samuel 'Sam' Riordan in Gen V, the spin-off of The Boys centred on young adults with superpowers.

The series is set at Godolkin University, where young superheroes train and compete as they develop their abilities. Sam Riordan is the role that brought Germann into that television world before his consideration for the new X-Men film.

His film credits also include Scream 7, in which he played Lucas Bowden. He is represented by CAA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Jackoway Austen.

The report does not include a statement from Germann or his representatives about the Angel offer. Germann's route to the proposed role began with consideration for Cyclops, but it is Angel for whom the report says he is now in final talks.

Jake Schreier, whose credits include Thunderbolts*, is directing the revival. The film is scheduled for release on 5 May 2028, according to the report.
